"It wowed me again!"
"While back in Ohio for an unplanned visit, I thought I would visit the Butler one more time to spend a quiet afternoon thinking it would be good to see it all again. There was a huge new display of Max Ginsburg paintings. What great stuff. Spend a lot of time with it and just scooted around the other displays. If I had more time, I would have enjoyed Burbanks Indian paintings more. Allow 4 to 5 hours."

"This art museum contains some very classic american works, including artists such as Winslow Homer and Norman Rockwell. Admission is free, but there is a recommended donation to visitors. The museum hosts free public concerts at noon every Wednesday, often showcasing students and faculty from the nearby Dana School of Music. Attached to the museum is a small art shop, a gift shop, and a cafe."

"This is a priceless gem in the heart of Youngstown. Two stand out pieces to look for, Winslow Homer's "Snap the Whip" and a huge mural entitled "Americans, Youngstown, Ohio".

"The crown jewel of Youngstown, Ohio. A wonderful museum with free admission (donations encouraged), where you can peruse many galleries with iconic artists' work. A few of the great artists work which is on permanent display: Norman Rockwell, Grant Woods, and Winslow Homer."

"When sitting in 224 traffic waiting to give your money to a shop in the mall just doesn't sound like a fun way to spend your weekend anymore, you take the family to Butler. This place is a total breath of fresh air whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed by the merchandising of it all..."

"Visiting since childhood"
"I'm afraid growing up in the suburbs of Youngstown, I haven't come up with many heritage and cultural locations of reknown in my hometown/city. BUT, we would often visit the Butler Art Museum, either for special events, school, to pass time, and such. It is such a great and important aspect of our city, with great artwork. I hope to go back soon and would recommend."

"Family enjoyed it"
"I was a little nervous with my active teen girls if they would take the time to really look at this place. They did and loved it. Very nice collection. Was not expecting such a collection. And to top it off it had no charge."

"If your visiting Youngstown, Ohio this is an absolute must! Total Gem!!"
"The Butler Institute of American Art will leave you floored. It's worth the visit to only see Winslow Homer's Snap the Whip, but once your there, you will be overwhelmed by what an impressive collection of American art resides in Youngstown, Ohio.
Family Recommendation: In the basement there is a children's area where they can read, and create art projects. Really adds to a memorable day for the family."

Fantastic Museum
We are a family of 5, including 3 children ages 5-13. We spend an afternoon here while visiting family in Youngstown. There is no set admission fee, just donations, which is also very unique and great for families. It is an amazing museum, with a collection that might seem surprising to find in Youngstown. The collection is varied, including masterpieces from a wide range of time periods, and a section with modern and electronic art. In the basement, there is even a small seating area with are related kid-friendly books to enjoy. We had been to this museum before, but so many years ago that only the 13 year old remember it. The kids really enjoyed it, and would have liked to stay longer.
